We talk about being healthy without knowing or being clear about what it
means to be in good health. For many, being healthy is not having any
disease. If we are not sick, we are healthy and we will surely live for
many more years. For others, exercising increases the immune system, so
the chance of falling victim to some disease is reduced, for others eating
well is the key that will open the door to a healthy life. And so we can
name other forms of life that according to the great consensus
guarantees us a healthy life. For example if we eat well, but we don’t
exercise, and we drink sodas with our meals, or we eat a lot of sweets,
and we live under stress, and we don’t get enough rest, we are no longer
taking care of our body.
Studies show that the habits that would lead us to not falling ill in order
to achieve all our dreams, include following a healthy diet, being
physically active, learning to manage the stress in which we live daily,
not being addicted to alcohol, smoking, or drugs, to be aware of our
health, to know our body and much more. It looks complicated, but it is
not. It is all part of the routine of life itself.
Sometimes we forget to teach our children about how to lead a healthy
life. In fact, the example we give them with our behavior is not the best.
Children copy parents, and in the end the same thing happens to many
adults. We realize that we do not live a healthy life when ailments and
diseases begin. We blame it on age, but while it is true that the body also
becomes older and its functionality decreases, we could have made our
body stronger thus delaying the effect of age.
History repeats itself with our teenagers as they are at an age when they
become independent and make their own decisions which are based on
the program they learned from their parents and the little information
about body care they acquired from them. By nature, they feel
invincible, timeless, super heroes in every way. Which means that they
are convinced that nothing will harm them, and they do not realize that
healthy habits such as having a balanced diet, avoiding junk food, sweets,
soft drinks and highly energy drinks, that staying physically active, resting
at least 8 hours a day, learning to meditate and breathe would allow
them to feel better, look better, and have better results at school, in
sports, and at work. It would also allow them to prevent diseases like
diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, some forms of cancer,
high blood pressure when they are older.
The truth is that although many of these conditions can be reversed when
we opt for a healthier life, there is no guarantee that this will be the
case. We repent when it is too late to repair the damage we did to our
body.
It is important to educate our children to maintain a healthy life. We
must make this care a habit, part of the daily routine. The world
becomes more and more complicated for the new generations. Daily
pressures increase minute by minute so it is necessary to be physically
stronger.
